The Social Psychology of Interpersonal and Intergroup Relations

: Social psychology forms perhaps the most basic branch of psychology. It cannot be taught in just one semester and so all university departments in Greece where the subject is taught it is taught over at least two semesters. The course covers half of the basic subject matter of social psychology. It covers the topics concerning explanations for human behavior at an interpersonal and intergroup level.

The Application of Social Psychology in Education

Social psychology provides a theoretical and methodological basis for various branches of the discipline of psychology and so permits the study of specialized aspects of human behavior that are also of current interest. The field of education and the study of the components of the act of teaching are a typical example and make clear the importance of concentrating one's interest on this field of enquiry, particularly in a department that produces the teachers of tomorrow.

Anthropological Demography

Anthropological demography is a relatively new discipline which blends demographic methods and analysis with the corresponding methods and analysis drawn from socio-cultural anthropology and physical anthropology and evolutionary thought. The aim of the course is to ensure that students have an understanding of the basic aspects of anthropological thought that concern the demographic features of human populations. Course outline:
The concept of interdisciplinarity and multidisciplinarity.
Demographic transition as an example of interdisciplinary approaches.

The Prehistory of Balkans and Anatolia

The subject matter of the course is material culture and societies during the Paleolithic and Neolithic periods and the Bronze Age throughout the Balkans and Anatolia. The aim of the course is to present in summary form matters regarding the spatial organization, architecture, burial practices and material culture of prehistoric communities during the chief periods of prehistory in the various regions in question, together with interpretations and views regarding economy, social organization and social relations.

The Anthropology of Education

The aim of the course is for the student to acquire an awareness of the need for an anthropological approach to the contemporary education process, particular at secondary level. The course commences by establishing the basic difference, which is mainly methodological, between the sociology of education and the anthropology of education.
