The course forms a basic introduction to the history of medieval Europe. It examines the formation and evolution of the Medieval world throughout the European continent, from the fall of the Roman empire and the foundation of the Germanic (“barbarian”) kingdoms to the Renaissance and the transition to the Early Modern Era.

Social psychology provides a theoretical and methodological basis for various branches of the discipline of psychology and so permits the study of specialized aspects of human behavior that are also of current interest. The field of education and the study of the components of the act of teaching are a typical example and make clear the importance of concentrating one's interest on this field of enquiry, particularly in a department that produces the teachers of tomorrow.

The course deals with the presence of Islam in the Balkans from a historical and
anthropological point of view. In chronological terms, it deals with the period from the end
of the 19th century to the final decade of the 20th century. It focuses upon socio-political
developments in the Balkans at the start of the 1990s and on their consequences for Islam in

The course introduces students to the chief concepts and principles of demography and to the basic techniques employed in the study of demographic phenomena. Particular emphasis is laid upon the links between demography and biological, historical, social and economic phenomena and the cultural features of various human populations.
