The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the biology of man and the demography of a series of populations studied by anthropologists, such as the Ache, !Kung, Rendille and the Hutterites and to lead students to the study of the forces that shape the progress of such populations in space and over time.

Στόχος του μαθήματος είναι να εισαγάγει τους φοιτητές στην επιστημονική προσέγγιση της ισλαμικής ιστοριογραφίας, του μέρους εκείνου δηλαδή της αραβοϊσλαμικής γραμματείας που έχει ως αντικείμενο την ιστορική αφήγηση. Ειδικά θα μελετηθούν και θα αναλυθούν συγγραφείς και έργα που σχετίζονται με την ισλαμική – αλλά όχι μόνο – ιστορία, με ιστοριογραφικά κείμενα γραμμένα στην Αραβική από τις αρχές του 8ου αιώνα μέχρι τις αρχές του 19ου αιώνα.

The course analyzes and studies the political and social entity created in Egypt and Syria in the late Middle Ages by the Mamluks, who were military personnel of servile origin. The Mamluk State was the largest political, military, and economic power in the Middle East until it was conquered and incorporated by the Ottomans into their state.
