Athina Syriatou

Born in Athens, Athena Syriatou, who is currently Assistant Professor in Modern and Contemporary European History, received a degree in English Language and Literature from the National and Capodistrian University of Athens.  She then received an MA in European and British History from University College, London, from which she subsequently received a doctorate in contemporary British history.
She has worked as a researcher in the Historical Museum of Germany in Berlin and has taught European and British history at University College, London and Birkbeck College, London  and at the University of Crete, Greece and has also taught European history at the National and Capodistrian University of Athens.  Since 1999, she has also taught for the Studies in European Culture Programme of the Hellenic Open University.  She is member of the editorial committee of the Greek journal Historein. 
She has published books, articles and chapters in Greek and non-Greek works.  Among her publications is the edited volume(in Greek) Ruling the Waves: Aspects of history and historiography of the British Empire (Asini Publications, Athens, 2018).
Since 2007, she has taught as a regular member of the teaching and research staff of the Department of History and Ethnology of the Democritus University of Thrace. 
Among her research interests are: the social and cultural history of contemporary Europe and of Britain in particular and post-colonial history and historiography.
