Greek Texts of the Ottoman Period and their Didactic Development

This course looks at Greek texts of the Byzantine and Ottoman period that the course instructor has chosen as appropriate material for didactic use in the teaching of Byzantine history and of the history of modern Greek history and culture.  One of the aims of the course is to cultivate in students the ability to deal with written sources and decide what can be employed for teaching use.  Another is to make use of these texts through working groups to which all students will belong.  They will undertake assignments that will include a lesson plan for the teaching of this matter by secondary level teaching handbooks.  A third of the teaching hours will be assigned to microteaching sessions, to observing demonstration teaching sessions and to school internships. Students will be evaluated on the basis of their work and its practical application, as laid out above.  Because of the nature of the course, no more than 30 students can be accepted on the course and attendance is compulsory.
