The course examines the following topics: Definition of paleoanthropology, human evolution from fossil apes to modern humans, human species, human evolutionary anatomy, paleolithic technologies, life histories of hominins, excavation techniques and radiometric dating and microanalyses.

This introductory course deals with the main features of Byzantine art from the Early Christian period to the Late Byzantine times. To do so, it looks at various representative monuments and works of art, such as wall painting, portable icons and manuscript illustrations. Particular emphasis will be placed upon the social, historical, theological and iconological context and on archaeological evidence

The course acquaints students with the various forms of contemporary rituals found in Greek folk culture and with the basic social and ideological parameters that inform the functioning and formation of these rituals.  It also gives them an understanding of the meaning of the evolution and of the handling of older forms of tradition and the ways in which these forms function.  The course also acquaints students with the functioning of phenomena, such as secularization, the introduction of cultural prototypes, folklorism and cultural globalization in practice, which it does through the use o
