Laboratory for Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Studies.

The Laboratory for Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Studies was founded in November, 2017 (Greek Government Gazette, Vol. II, 9 November 2018).  The name was changed from ‘Laboratory for Palaeography and the Conservation of Manuscripts and Old Printed Books’ and the Regulations for the Internal Functioning of the Laboratory were approved.  The Laboratory services the educational and research needs at undergraduate and postgraduate level of both the Department of History and Ethnology and of other Departments of the University in regard to Byzantine history, Byzantine and Post-Byzantine written material and Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Art.  The goals of the Laboratory are the following:
·        The development of teaching and research programmes for post-graduate and doctoral students and for postdoctoral researchers in the context of the subjects covered by the Laboratory.
·        Collaboration of all types with research foundations, institutes and academic foundations; with academic bodies in Greece and abroad, in so far as their aims coincide with and complement those of the Laboratory, informed by a spirit of mutual and collective cooperation.
·        Collaboration with state bodies, legal entities of public and private law, local government organizations and other local bodies to promote the aims of the Laboratory;  the organization of conferences, symposia, one-day conferences and other academic activities; the inviting of scholars and other individuals from Greece and abroad who will contribute to the promotion of the aims of the Laboratory
·        Publication of work connected with subjects in Byzantine history, Byzantine and post-Byzantine writings and Byzantine and post-Byzantine art.   
·        The creation of databases that will include digital infrastructure connected with the subjects promoted by the Laboratory.
The Laboratory is housed on the first floor of the Department of History and Ethnology. 
The first Director, Georgios Tsigaras, Associate Professor of the History of Byzantine and post-Byzantine Art, was appointed in November of 2017 by the Department General Assembly.
